Underground Vaults and Storage, Inc.
This graphic illustrates the space underground occupied by UV&S in the City of Hutchinson. Mined in the pillar and column method, the natural salt walls are the only support required in this underground fortress. Each of our storage "bays" (represented by the blue space) is equalivant to 15,000 square feet. Current 12-acre expansion is to the east of this occupied space.
The Salt Mine storage center consists of 26 acres currently developed with a twelve acre expansion underway. Over 800 acre of mined out space await our future growth. Ambient temperature of 68 degrees F. and relative humidity between 40% - 50% provides the ideal environment for all media. Designed to provide the ultimate destination for information that may require long retention, strict environmental conditions or added security.
"The available space inside of the Underground Vaults and Storage, Inc (including the 800 acres of mined out unused space) today would hold a maximum of 3,522,300 people at 10 SQ FT per person, or 697,831 people at a more comfortable 50 SQ FT, although proper ventilation and supplies would be required to stay there for any large amount of time (I think the whole storage facility, including the 800 acres of mined out unused storage space, is already properly ventilated)."
